Labor Day Weekend Guide

September 4, 2020 by Taylor Kowald

Mama having a glass of white and wishing you a very Happy Labor Day weekend!

Here is your guide for a fabulous labor day weekend! I’ve created a list of the top labor day recipes to help you celebrate the end of summer!

Summer this year has looked a little different, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate! My family and I have missed our extended family, vacations, cookouts with friends, and doing simple things like going to the local farmers market, but we have also gained so much. We have had the opportunity to spend so much quality time together which has been especially important in our daughter’s first year of life. If we had been working during this time, there could have been so many precious moments that we could have missed. So, in that regard, we are very grateful. I’ll hold up a glass of wine this labor day weekend and cheers you all from a distance. Cheers to a very different summer that none of us will ever forget. Happy Labor Day, people!

Here is a list of some awesome Labor Day weekend that will help you get the party started!

The Absolute Best Vegan Chili

Kick off you labor day weekend with some heat! This is a Texas Style Vegan Chili using three beans, vegan Soyrizo, chiles de adobo and a whole lot of love and care! It’s delicious! Eat it over rice, on a veggie dog, on a veggie burger, in tacos, with crackers, or chips, and even by itself! Extra points if you top it with some delicious vegan cheese! I like Follow Your Heart’s Vegan Cheddar or Daiya’s NEW Cheddar made with chickpeas! Both of these cheeses are melty and delicious!

Jalapeno Coleslaw

Jalapeno Coleslaw

A fresh take on an old classic! It’s got some classic creamy and tangy flavors, but I use Follow Your Heart’s Veganaise and Lime juice for the dressing. Pack an extra spicy punch by leaving the seeds in your jalapenos, or take them out if you don’t like too much heat! This is a great topping for BBQ sandwhiches, tacos, or just as a classic side! Make this Jalapeno Coleslaw for your whole family! It will please vegans and non-vegans alike!

Creamy Tomatillo Dip

Tangy and Creamy Tomatillo Dip

This is a light and refreshing dip that is a real crowd pleaser! It is made with tomatillos, cashews, lime juice, cilantro, peppers (optional), and salt! A dip that is super simple to whip up and is creamy with out the cream is a dream! (Yes I know that rhymed!) Make this to take to a cookout this Labor Day Weekend! Eat it with chips, crackers, toast, and on tacos! I love it on top of my Jackfruit Guisada. Possibly one of the best things about this dip is that it is healthy! Guilt free enjoyment is a definite plus!

Easy Vegan Macaroni and Cheese

Creamy Dreamy and all Vegan Macaroni and Cheese

Just look at that macaroni and cheese people! Look at it! It looks like the real thing and tastes like the real thing because I created this recipe with old fashioned methods that gave fantastic results! I create a roux with vegan butter and flower, add in some non-dairy milk and vegan cheese, whisk until thick and creamy and toss in with the mac. This macaroni and cheese is super easy and really tasty! You won’t miss the dairy at all! Make this for labor day weekend, and you’re sure to get a whole lot of praise!

Hearts of Palm Crab Cakes

Vegan Hearts of Palm “Crab” Cakes

I love these crabless cakes! They are super simple to make using hearts of palm, veganaise, and breadcrumbs. Hearts of Palm give a great texture very reminiscent to crab, but allows us to have a cake that is kinder to our under-the-sea pals. Pop them into the oven and enjoy and almost effortless appetizer! These always go fast, so I highly recommend that you make double or even triple to recipe! Everyone will definitely be wanting more. Don’t forget to sprinkle the top with some Old Bay seasoning for a really classic crab cake feel.
